Our recent journey took us to one of Hawaii's most iconic landmarks: Diamond Head.

This majestic volcanic crater, perched on the southeastern coast of Oahu, offers an adventure that combines stunning natural beauty with a touch of history.

Hiking to New Heights

We began our day with a hike up Diamond Head, officially known as Lē‘ahi. The trailhead is conveniently located just a short drive from Waikiki, making it an easy addition to any Hawaiian itinerary.

The hike is a moderate 1.6-mile round trip, though the climb is steep in sections, with switchbacks and staircases that lead to the summit. We started early in the morning, around 7 AM, to avoid the peak of the day’s heat and to take advantage of fewer crowds.

As we ascended, the landscape shifted from lush vegetation to rugged volcanic rock. Along the way, we passed through a historic tunnel, which added an intriguing historical layer to our hike.

The views from the top were absolutely worth the effort. From the summit, we gazed out over Honolulu and the azure waters of the Pacific Ocean, the coastline stretching endlessly beneath us. It was a panoramic view that truly captured the essence of Hawaii's natural beauty.

Visitor Information: Hours and Fees

Diamond Head State Monument is open daily from 6 AM to 4 PM, with the last entry allowed at 4 PM. Entrance fees are $10 per adult and $5 for children aged 6-12.

For those driving, parking is available on-site for $5, though spaces can fill up quickly. We opted to take a rideshare to avoid the hassle of parking and to enjoy a stress-free start to our adventure.

After our exhilarating hike, we decided to extend our experience by staying at the nearby Lotus Hotel. This boutique hotel, located just a short drive from Diamond Head, offers a blend of luxury and comfort. We were pleasantly surprised by the modern yet cozy atmosphere of the hotel.
