Camels are different from other animals. They have especially high hunger tolerance. People can ride camels across the desert, so they are known as "the ship of the desert". They are docile, fearless of wind and sand, and good at walking in the desert. They are indispensable means of transportation in desert areas.
When talking about the desert, people naturally think of camels. Camels can survive in arid and harsh environments and the special ability to travel long distances in the desert. people who living in those areas praise them and generally recognize them as "ships of the desert". Indeed, since ancient times, camels have played an important role in spreading the economy and culture of the East and the West.
The desert environment is harsh, the climate is dry, the temperature difference between day and night is great, and there are few water plants. Camels have been living in the desert for a long time, and their body functions have a series of adaptability. They can close nostrils, have thick protective eyelids and hairy ear holes, and can block the invasion of wind and sand. They also have horny knee pads suitable for kneeling and foot meat pads about 0.5cm thick, which can withstand the high temperature of 70-80 ℃ in the desert. In addition, camels are covered with about 10cm long brown hair, which can be used to resist the cold in winter. In summer, a cooling gap is formed between the hair and the skin, which can prevent high-temperature radiant heat.
Camels have amazing endurance. When the temperature is 50 ℃ and the water loss reaches 30% of their body weight, they can still not drink water for 20 days. Moreover, camels only shed a little sweat when the temperature reaches 40 ℃; Although they walk very slowly, they can carry a lot of things. They even carry 200 kilograms and travel at a speed of 75 kilometers per day for four days. Camel wasps are used to store fat. At most, they can hold 50 kilograms of fat, accounting for about 1/5 of their body weight. The stomach and muscles of camels can also store a certain amount of water. Their first stomach can store nearly 100 kilograms of water at a time. Therefore, when food and water are not available, they can use the stored fat and water to maintain their lives. In addition, camels have a very sensitive sense of smell. They can identify and feel the water source in the distance within 3 miles. In the vast desert, this ability is very important.
Camels generally live in groups. In summer, they live in scattered families. In autumn, they form groups of five or six camels, or about twenty camels, and sometimes more than 100 camels. When walking in the desert, adult camels walk in front and behind, while small camels line up in the middle, and often follow several fixed routes for food and water, which is called "camel trail".
