Are you tired from working all day? Looking for a place to relax? This is definitely the place for you! Lykkers, come explore with us!
Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel sits in the beautiful North Rhins of Galloway, near Stranraer and the lovely harbor of Portpatrick. It's housed in the old keepers' quarters around the Corsewall lighthouse tower.
This place, created by Robert Stevenson, the grandfather of a famous novelist and a crucial figure in the Stevenson Lighthouse tradition, is steeped in maritime history.
While famed for its picturesque surroundings, as showcased in Gerard Butler and Peter Mullan's psychological thriller drama "The Vanishing," the ambiance here is decidedly more tranquil and welcoming than depicted in the film.
Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel
Helen Mason and John Harris, the new proprietors, were captivated from the moment they stepped into the hotel, which went up for sale last year. Their objective is to "preserve the unique charm while modernizing," ensuring the fulfillment of existing reservations.
In addition to being a distinctive and historically rich lodging option, the hotel, under the new ownership, is contemplating potential tours of the lighthouse. Situated in a region abundant with wildlife, including deer, seals, various bird species, and the occasional sighting of a family of sea otters, it offers an idyllic setting for nature enthusiasts.
This locale is particularly appealing to photographers like John, whose captivating work will adorn the walls of the hotel. Moreover, it serves as an excellent base for exploring the charms of South West Scotland.
Room Service
The hotel comprises six rooms, one of which features a private balcony. A neutral color scheme elegantly complements John's photography, while all rooms are thoughtfully furnished for comfort. However, given their origins as part of the original lighthouse keepers' quarters, space can be somewhat limited in the smaller rooms.
The external buildings, primarily converted from original outbuildings, offer more spacious accommodations with generally superior sea views—unlike the main house, where the lighthouse tower might obstruct the view. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in the main hotel building.
Dining
Under the culinary direction of Chef Andrew Downie, guests can indulge in a sumptuous dinner experience. Starters tempt the palate with options like goat cheese and red onion tartlet, locally smoked salmon, and duck, mushroom, peppercorn, and tomato reduction. For dessert, you can savor the Ecclefechan Tart or choose from a selection of fine Scottish cheeses.
The dinner, bed, and breakfast package guarantee guests a memorable dining experience with the included dinner. For added convenience, in-room dining options are also available for those seeking a more private dining experience.
A hearty full Scottish breakfast is included in the price for all guests, ensuring a satisfying start to the day. Additionally, smoked salmon is readily available for those with a penchant for this delicacy.
Furthermore, the hotel extends a warm invitation to drop-in guests, who are welcome to enjoy a selection of snacks either in the cozy lounge area or al fresco, soaking in the ambiance of the surroundings.
Ideal for weddings or intimate gatherings, the hotel offers a charming and atmospheric venue with breathtaking coastal views.
Room rates start from £160 for a dinner, bed, and breakfast package for two guests.
